Teacher of the Deaf Job Opportunities

Birch Agency offers Teachers of the Deaf job opportunities in schools throughout the United States.  We have positions in public, private, charter, and schools for the deaf and hearing impaired.  Our teachers of the Deaf help students to communicate through a variety of communication modalities, languages, and strategies.  Providing support to students who are deaf or hard of hearing, our teachers help students to communicate effectively and help to create a successful learning environment for students impacted by hearing loss.

Responsibilities:

  • Test and monitor hearing levels
  • Test and monitor hearing aid settings
  • Assess and monitor functional hearing levels
  • Assess full range of communication and language levels including use of sign, spoken language, and any additional modes of communication
  • Assess and monitor educational outcomes
  • Fitting and monitoring listening devices
  • Provide proper testing accommodations
  • Provide suggestions for classroom modifications to better service student’s needs
  • Provide curriculum instruction to deaf and hard of hearing students
  • Provide support for language development and written language
  • Enhance listening ability
  • Troubleshoot personal FM equipment
  • Consult with school staff and provide training as necessary regarding hearing loss, amplification systems, and strategies to help student’s succeed
  • Interpret audiological information

Qualifications:

  • Bachelors or Master’s degree in Education
  • Deaf/Hard of Hearing Teaching Certificate
  • American Sign Language/English Sign Language experience
